Colson Montgomery sets new MLB single-season strikeout record

Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery has set a new Major League Baseball single-season record for strikeouts. During a 6-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies, Montgomery recorded his 224th strikeout, surpassing the previous record of 223 set by Mark Reynolds in 2009.

Despite the milestone, Montgomery has maintained significant offensive and defensive contributions. In his second major league season, the 24-year-old has recorded 31 home runs and 87 RBIs. Defensively, he has earned six Outs Above Average (OAA) with a 75% success rate.

Montgomery expressed a desire to focus on positive aspects of his performance rather than the record. He noted that dwelling on the negative would be selfish given the team's current position, stating, “It’s definitely something you don’t want your name to be a part of.”
