Colt Emerson to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

Seattle Mariners infielder Colt Emerson will undergo season-ending surgery on his left wrist. Emerson, who was already on the 10-day injured list due to tendon inflammation, is expected to be healthy by next year’s spring training.

Emerson had previously struggled during his first 69 big league games, posting a .190/.246/.335 line. Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto expressed disappointment that the player had not been more forthcoming about the injury, which had been bothering him for some time.

The injury leaves the Mariners to manage their infield for the remainder of the season. Potential options for the shortstop position include J.P. Crawford, Brock Rodden, Leo Rivas, Brendan Donovan, and Weston Wilson.
