Coltivare Legami project targets elderly loneliness in Italy
The “Coltivare Legami” project has been launched in Italy’s ceramic district to combat loneliness among the elderly. The initiative brings together seven local associations to build a network of social relationships, meetings, and mutual care.
Selected as a winner of the 2026/2027 local relevance projects tender, the program is promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region and funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. The project addresses a demographic reality where those over 65 represent 22% to 23% of the local population, many of whom live alone and face risks of social marginalization and loss of self-sufficiency.
The network includes organizations such as Albero d’Oro – Orti e Bonsai APS, La Comune del Parco Braida, Associazione artistica In Arte, As. S. De, Star Bene, Librarsi Odv, and Amici per la Vita. Early initiatives include the creation of “Orti Sospesi” (Suspended Gardens), which are raised wooden structures designed to facilitate accessibility for participants.
