Colton Herta seeks F1 Super Licence at Brazilian Grand Prix
Cadillac test driver Colton Herta will participate in the first free practice session (FP1) at the Brazilian Grand Prix to secure the final point required for his FIA Super Licence. Herta needs to reach a total of 40 points to qualify for Formula 1 racing.
The requirement for an additional session arose after Cadillac discovered an error in official IndyCar standings. While the team previously believed Herta had secured the necessary points following the Mexico Grand Prix, a discrepancy in his 2025 IndyCar ranking—where he finished seventh instead of the initially reported sixth—resulted in a two-point deficit.
To rectify this, Cadillac has scheduled Herta for a sixth rookie session this season, driving Sergio Perez’s MAC-26. Although teams are only required to run rookies in four sessions per year, Cadillac is utilizing this extra opportunity to ensure Herta obtains his license. This development is significant for the team’s future planning, as Herta is considered a candidate for a full-time seat in 2027.
