Colton Herta struggles in Formula 2 transition
Colton Herta is facing a difficult 2026 season in Formula 2 after leaving IndyCar to pursue a path toward Formula 1. Currently ranked 19th in the championship without a podium finish, Herta is falling short of the performance targets set by Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss.
Bruno Michel, CEO of Formula 2, noted that the transition from IndyCar to the European racing environment may have been underestimated. Michel highlighted that the intense pressure of qualifying sessions in F2, which require immediate pace in very short windows, has proven particularly challenging for the American driver.
Herta, who also serves as a test driver for Cadillac, is unlikely to secure the FIA Super Licence required for Formula 1 participation in 2027 due to his current standing. While a second season in Formula 2 remains a possibility, it is not Herta's primary priority.
