Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon faces criticism over sideline activity
Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon has faced criticism from analysts and coaches regarding her active presence on the team sideline. During a game against the Washington Commanders at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Irsay-Gordon was observed using a headset and taking notes, leading to speculation that she was questioning head coach Shane Steichen’s play calls.
Critics, including private quarterback coach Quincy Avery, have described her sideline actions as ‘performative.’ Avery noted that while Irsay-Gordon is connected to the team and attends meetings, her visible involvement during games ‘just seems very performative.’
Irsay-Gordon has defended her actions, stating that the headset and notebook are not intended to direct coaches or influence real-time decisions. Instead, she explained that observing the communication between the coaching staff helps her better understand the complexities of football operations and identify where the organization needs to make adjustments.
