Columbia Icefield vehicle rollover injures staff member

A staff member was injured on Tuesday after a tour vehicle rolled down a hill at the Columbia Icefield, located approximately 120 kilometres south of Jasper, Alberta. The incident involved an Ice Odyssey all-terrain vehicle, which was being used by a Pursuit employee to conduct an operational maintenance check at the time of the accident.

According to Pursuit’s Canadian chief operating officer Stuart Back, the vehicle rolled backwards and off the road. The employee was transported to a hospital and has since been released to continue recovery. No tourists or other individuals were on the vehicle when the rollover occurred.

Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety department has taken over the investigation into the incident. Pursuit has cancelled glacier tours until at least Thursday while they review the circumstances with authorities. The Columbia Icefield Skywalk, which operates independently from the glacier tours, remains open. Affected customers are being offered refunds or the option to rebook.
