Columbia women's basketball coach Megan Griffith suspended for three games

Columbia University has suspended women's basketball head coach Megan Griffith for the first three games of the 2026-27 season. The decision follows an external review prompted by a complaint regarding Griffith's conduct during practices in a previous season.

The review determined that Griffith's interactions with the team did not align with university expectations. However, the investigation found no violations of NCAA rules, nor any breaches of Columbia's anti-discrimination or Title IX policies. Additionally, no issues were identified regarding practices in the current season.

In a statement, Griffith expressed regret and took responsibility for instances where her conduct fell short. She noted that the well-being of her players remains her priority. The Columbia women's basketball players issued a collective statement supporting Griffith, describing the program as a supportive and inclusive environment.

Griffith will miss games against Davidson on November 2, as well as tournament matchups against Rhode Island and Belmont. Associate head coach Tyler Cordell will lead the team during her absence. Griffith is permitted to participate in all team activities, including practices, while the suspension is in effect.
