Columbiana man charged in Shelby County shooting

Herbert Rupert Stanfield Jr., a 61-year-old man from Columbiana, has been charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree assault following a shooting in south Shelby County.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting near County Road 37, also known as Egg and Butter Road, at approximately 5:22 p.m. on September 5. Upon arrival, officials located an adult male with a gunshot wound. Southeast Shelby Rescue provided medical assistance at the scene.

Following a preliminary investigation, deputies identified Stanfield as a suspect and took him into custody at a local residence without incident. He is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond. Sheriff John Samaniego commended the quick response of deputies and investigators in securing the scene and identifying the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
