Columbus Blue Jackets sign goaltender Cam Talbot

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed veteran goaltender Cam Talbot to a one-year contract worth $950,000. The 39-year-old, a two-time NHL All-Star, will serve as a backup to Elvis Merzlikins in Columbus.

Talbot joins the Blue Jackets as his ninth NHL team, following recent stints with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and Ottawa Senators. During his most notable season with the Edmonton Oilers in 2016-17, he led the league in wins and saves.

In addition to the goaltending move, discussions continue regarding the contract situation for center Adam Fantilli. The Blue Jackets currently have approximately $13.4 million in available cap space, which may influence upcoming negotiations for the young player.
