Columbus Blue Jackets sign Jet Greaves and face media cuts

The Columbus Blue Jackets are facing criticism from fans following recent organizational changes and a major player contract extension.

In response to recent media restructuring, the club has parted ways with long-time radio broadcaster Bob McElligott, who served for 17 years, and team insider Jeff Svoboda. Club president Mike Priest stated that the changes are intended to facilitate a transition toward more video and digital content to serve fans in new ways. However, supporters have expressed frustration, viewing the decisions as a loss of local coverage and community connection.

On the ice, the team secured a three-year, $15 million contract with goaltender Jet Greaves. The agreement, which averages $5 million annually, was finalized just hours before a scheduled salary arbitration hearing. Greaves expressed his desire to remain with the organization, noting that despite significant gaps in initial salary expectations, his primary focus remained on playing and helping the team.
