St. Louis City SC wins 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
St. Louis City SC secured the first trophy in its history by defeating Columbus Crew in a penalty shootout during the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final. Following a 0-0 draw through regulation and extra time at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Ohio, St. Louis won the shootout 5-3.
The victory was highlighted by the performance of substitute goalkeeper Ben Lundt, who entered the match in the 78th minute after starting goalkeeper Roman Bürki left the field due to injury. Lundt made a decisive save on the first penalty attempt by Columbus's Santiago Rodríguez. St. Louis converted all five of its shots via Timo Baumgartl, Lukas MacNaughton, Chris Durkin, Damion Downs, and Daniel Edelman.
With this win, St. Louis City SC earns a spot in the 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup and a $600,000 prize. This marks the first major title for the club since joining MLS in 2023.
