Columbus, North Carolina celebrates Independence Day and the nation's 250th anniversary

On July 4, the town of Columbus, North Carolina, marked the United States’ 250th anniversary with a day‑long Independence Day celebration. Mayor Pat McCool opened the event, followed by a colors ceremony, live performances ranging from bluegrass to Celtic folk, a veterans hour, historical exhibits, a classic car show, and a fireworks display that lit the night sky.

Throughout July, community groups in Columbus County kept the festive spirit alive with a farmers market, library reading programs, beekeepers meetings, church prayer gatherings, charity workouts, and other local activities, offering residents a variety of cultural and recreational options.
