Columbus, Ohio, announces Labor Day 2026 service schedules

In observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, various public services and government offices in Columbus, Ohio, will adjust their operations. Federal, state, county, and city government offices, as well as courthouses and financial institutions, will be closed.

Public school systems, including Columbus City Schools and South Western City Schools, will not hold classes. Financial markets such as the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will also pause operations.

Municipal services in Columbus will see several changes:

• Trash and recycling: Municipal trash collection will not run on Sept. 7, causing the pickup schedule to rotate one day forward through Oct. 12, 2026. Weekly recycling and biweekly yard waste pickups will also be delayed by one day. • Parking: City parking meters and kiosks will be free and unenforced, though restrictions on valet zones, loading areas, and handicapped spots remain in effect. • Transit: The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) will operate on a Sunday schedule. COTA is also introducing new service updates, including a line connecting Hilliard to Downtown Columbus. • Mail: The United States Postal Service, UPS, and FedEx will pause regular residential delivery and pickups.
