Columbus shooting near Alrahma Mosque leaves one dead

A shooting near the Alrahma Mosque in Columbus, Ohio, resulted in the death of 21-year-old Luqmaan Cusmaan on Monday, October 19, 2026. The incident occurred around 2:11 p.m. in the 2200 block of Albert Avenue as attendees were exiting a funeral service at the mosque.

While the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) initially reported gunfire at the mosque, Columbus Police Sergeant James Fuqua clarified that the shooting was not a targeted attack on the religious site. Instead, authorities believe the violence stemmed from an unresolved dispute involving multiple individuals at a nearby apartment complex.

Investigators are still working to identify the suspects and determine the exact cause of the altercation. While there were initial reports of a second victim, the ATF has not confirmed any additional casualties. The Columbus Division of Police and the ATF are conducting a joint investigation into the homicide.
