Comarnic Bypass nears completion to ease DN1 traffic

The Comarnic Bypass, a 5.9-kilometer infrastructure project designed to alleviate traffic congestion on the DN1 highway, is nearing completion. Construction, which began in late 2023, has reached the final stages with asphalt paving fully completed.

The new bypass features one lane in each direction and includes three new bridges, a doubled bridge over the Prahova River, and a passage over both the river and the Ploiești–Brașov railway. Current finishing works include installing rainwater collection systems, bridge expansion joint covers, parapets, and road signs, as well as applying anti-corrosive protection to concrete elements.

With a total value of approximately 470 million lei, the project aims to divert heavy and transit traffic away from the center of Comarnic, particularly during weekends and peak tourist seasons heading toward Sinaia, Predeal, or Brașov. Officials suggest that the road could open to traffic by the end of August.
