Comas police arrest three suspects in transport extortion ring

Police in Comas, Lima Norte, have arrested three individuals suspected of running an extortion ring targeting informal public transport drivers. The suspects, identified as Luis Uturiango Marcos, Héctor Poma Espíritu, and Teófilo Grados Rojas, were apprehended at the intersection of Túpac Amaru and Belaúnde avenues.

Investigators found that the group maintained a list of at least 100 drivers who were allegedly required to make weekly payments in exchange for protection. The suspects, who were themselves transport drivers, reportedly used their professional knowledge to identify victims and coordinated payments through a mobile application.

During the operation, authorities recovered cash and written records containing the names of the targeted drivers, along with digital conversations detailing the extortion demands. Colonel Holger Obando Cristóbal of the National Police Extortion Division stated that the evidence suggests the suspects were deeply involved in organized criminal activity.
