Comayagüela authorities inspect 70 Chinese-owned businesses

The Municipal Mayor's Office of the Central District (AMDC) has launched inspections of approximately 70 Chinese-owned commercial establishments in Comayagüela. The operations, coordinated by the Municipal Police Court, aim to verify compliance with operating permits, tax obligations, and municipal regulations, including the Law of Municipalities and the Arbitrios Plan.

The investigations follow complaints from local Honduran merchants alleging unfair competition practices. These allegations include the purported sale of products below cost and other operational irregularities that may disadvantage domestic businesses.

Mayor Juan Diego Zelaya stated that the municipality seeks to ensure equitable conditions for all merchants regardless of nationality. He emphasized that while the city is open to investment, businesses must operate within the current legal framework. Authorities have warned that sanctions will be applied if irregularities are confirmed following due process.
