Combat Media seeks French TNT frequency for new cultural channel
Matthieu Pigasse, through his media group Combat Media, has announced its intention to apply for a digital terrestrial television (TNT) frequency for a late 2027 launch. Describing the project as ‘the media of cultures to come,’ Pigasse aims to create a channel that integrates traditional television with digital and social media platforms.
The proposed channel intends to focus on culture, music, humor, and politics. Pigasse plans to leverage existing brands within the Combat group, including Radio Nova, the magazine Les Inrockuptibles, and music festivals such as Rock en Seine and We Love Green. He noted that the channel would be built on principles of ‘freedom of tone, creation, discovery, but also popular, impertinent, audacity.’
To secure a frequency, the group must convince Arcom, the French audiovisual regulator, which has opened a call for applications for the renewal of six frequencies. The deadline for submitting applications is December 15. Competition is expected to be significant, with established players such as TF1 Séries Films, Amaury (La chaîne L’Équipe), M6 (6Ter), and CMA CGM (RMC Story, RMC Découverte, and RMC Life) likely to participate.
