Comcast introduces motion detection feature via Xfinity routers
Comcast has introduced a new technology called ‘Wi-Fi Motion’ on its latest Xfinity network devices, including the XB7 gateway and newer models. This free feature turns routers into motion sensors by detecting disruptions in wireless signals, allowing homeowners to receive activity notifications via the Xfinity app while away.
While the feature is opt-in, it carries significant privacy implications. According to Xfinity support documentation, Comcast may disclose information generated by the Wi-Fi Motion technology to third parties without further notifying the user. This disclosure can occur in connection with law enforcement investigations, legal disputes involving Comcast, or in compliance with court orders and subpoenas.
