Comcast introduces WiFi Motion technology for home security
Comcast, through its Xfinity brand, is introducing a security solution called Xfinity Shield that utilizes WiFi Motion technology to detect presence within a home.
The system works by measuring minute variations in Wi-Fi radio waves caused by physical objects or people moving through the signal field. This allows the router to detect movement without the need for cameras or microphones. The technology builds upon research previously conducted by MIT regarding the use of radio signals to detect motion or falls.
Comcast reported spending three years developing this solution, which is integrated into the Xfinity application alongside other features like CyberSecure and Family Settings.
