Comédie-Française featured in new comedy film

The new film ‘De la Comédie française’, directed by Martin Darondeau and Bertrand Usclat, offers a comedic look at the chaotic backstage environment of the prestigious Comédie-Française. The story follows Nina, a young director played by Pauline Clément, as she attempts to stage her first production, Macbeth, within the historic institution.

The narrative focuses on the high-pressure hours leading up to a premiere, depicting a series of technical failures, delays, and mounting stress that threaten the performance. To enhance authenticity, the production features a cast drawn from the institution’s own members, including Laurent Stocker and Julien Frison.

Originally conceived as a series, the project was adapted into a 75-minute film. While the film received awards at the Alpe-d’Huez festival, critics have noted its lighthearted approach to the complexities of contemporary theatrical production.
