Come From Away musical staged in Ireland and the United States

Various theatrical productions of the musical ‘Come From Away’ are being staged, bringing the true story of the September 11, 2001, events to life through different regional lenses.

In Ireland, the Portrush Musical Society presented a production directed by Kerry Kane. The performance utilized a small venue to enhance the intimacy of the scenes, featuring a cast that employed ‘chairography’—using chairs and tables in constant motion—to transition between settings. The production was noted for its sensitive interpretation and effective use of acoustics and percussion.

In the United States, Orlando Shakes is presenting the Tony Award-winning musical, which runs through September 27. The show depicts the hospitality shown by the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, to 7,000 stranded passengers following the 9/11 attacks. The production features a cast of 12 actors playing multiple roles, including a portrayal inspired by passenger Kevin Tuerff.
