Comedian Lee Hyuk-jae referred to prosecutors for drunk driving
Comedian Lee Hyuk-jae has been referred to the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office on charges of drunk driving. The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station confirmed that Lee was booked without detention following an incident in Songdo last month.
On October 8, at approximately 10:00 PM, Lee was driving a vehicle near the Korea Coast Guard headquarters when he collided with the rear of a motorcycle waiting at a red light. Police measured his blood alcohol concentration at a level between 0.03% and 0.08%, which is the threshold for license suspension in South Korea.
Lee stated that he had consumed one to two glasses of alcohol during dinner at a restaurant located 300 to 500 meters from his home. He claimed the accident occurred when he leaned over to pick up a dropped mobile phone, causing the vehicle to move forward. While Lee claimed he reported the accident himself, police noted they responded to a report made by the motorcycle driver, a person in their 20s.
Due to the minor nature of the injuries and the impact, police did not apply charges for bodily injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, proceeding only with the drunk driving charge.
