Comelec removes expiration deadline for teachers' election service credits
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued Resolution No. 11212-A, removing the expiration deadline for service incentive credits earned by public school teachers serving in elections. Previously, teachers were required to avail of these credits within three months of the election date.
Under the new guidelines, teachers can claim their earned credits at any time following their electoral duties. This includes service in National and Local Elections, Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections, special elections, plebiscites, and recall elections.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that teachers rendering service during National Elections will receive 10-day service incentive credits, while those serving in special elections, plebiscites, or recall elections will receive five days of credit. Education Secretary Sonny Angara welcomed the decision, noting that it provides relief to the approximately 600,000 public school teachers who serve as frontliners in the democratic process.
