Comfort Care Home opens in Jaffna offering free palliative care
A new palliative care facility, the Comfort Care Home, has officially opened in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna. Built at a cost exceeding Rs. 350 million, the center was funded entirely through private donations from local and international contributors.
Inaugurated by Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the facility provides free services to patients facing serious and life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer and organ failure. The center focuses on pain relief, emotional support, and dignity for patients. Its amenities include 20 private rooms, oxygen therapy, round-the-clock nursing care, and a spiritual garden.
The project was spearheaded by Dr. K. Devakanthan, a retired nephrologist based in the United States. The facility is situated on over an acre of land donated by the family of the late teacher Kanagasabai and operates without government funding.
