Comics Scholar Daniel Boris Highlights Decades of Cartoon Research and Editing

Daniel Boris, a veteran of comic‑art scholarship, has co‑edited the book *Art of Richard Thompson* with Bill Watterson and co‑authored the annual Comics Research Bibliography. He serves as Exhibits and Media Reviews editor and assistant editor for the International Journal of Comic Art, and has contributed articles to publications such as Hogan’s Alley, The Comics Journal, and White House History, including a piece on the cartoon‑decorated Hay‑Adams Hotel bar.

Boris has judged the RFK Journalism Awards editorial cartoon division from 2009 to 2022 and served as a Herblock Award judge in 2015, 2016 and 2020. His editorial work includes *Harvey Pekar: Conversations* (University Press of Mississippi) and *Biographical Sketches of Cartoonists & Illustrators* for the Library of Congress. He has also edited multiple volumes on Richard Thompson’s comic strip and contributed to anthologies like *District Comics* and *Redistricted*.

His contributions are recognized by institutions such as the Library of Congress and Michigan State University, which house his donated cartoon‑art collections, and he remains an associate member of the National Cartoonists Society.
