Comiso Airport faces management and investment concerns

The CISAL Catania union has raised concerns regarding the management and development of the ‘Pio La Torre’ airport in Comiso, describing it as being in a state of ‘operational and managerial isolation.’ The union argues that the facility risks being relegated to an emergency-only site rather than functioning as a stable, year-round infrastructure.

Key criticisms include the lack of a transparent industrial plan and concrete investments to boost air connections. CISAL highlighted delays in utilizing 47 million euros in FSC funds, which were released by the European Union to develop the cargo area and enhance logistics.

Furthermore, the union criticized the management model used by Società Aeroporto Catania (SAC), alleging that the current approach prioritizes the Catania ‘Vincenzo Bellini’ airport, leaving the Comiso site marginalized.
