Comiso Carabinieri officer honored for rescuing elderly woman from floodwaters

Brigadier Angelo Sebastiano Zuppardo of the Comiso Carabinieri station has received a formal commendation for his bravery during a severe storm on November 7, 2025. While on patrol along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Zuppardo and a trainee marshal observed an elderly woman being swept away by a violent current of rainwater in a sloping area of the street.

The woman had been pulled under a vehicle and was at risk of drowning. Despite the dangerous weather conditions and the strength of the current, the two officers intervened to rescue her, risking their own safety to pull her to safety.

The commendation was presented at the Comiso barracks by Colonel Carmine Rosciano, Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri in Ragusa, acting on behalf of Division General Ubaldo Del Monaco, Commander of the Carabinieri Legion in Sicily. During the ceremony, Colonel Rosciano praised the officer's promptness and courage in responding to the emergency.
