Comiso holds large peace march marking 45 years since historic protest
In Comiso, Italy, a large-scale demonstration titled ‘In cammino per la pace’ (Walking for Peace) was held to promote peace and collective responsibility. The event was organized as part of the ‘Comiso, Cantiere per la pace’ initiative, marking 45 years since the historic ‘Marcia dei Trentamila’ of October 11, 1981, when tens of thousands protested against the installation of Cruise missiles at the local military base.
The current mobilization included a program starting at the Teatro Naselli, focusing on the relationship between historical memory and contemporary global tensions. A central march took place from the former NATO base to Piazza Fonte Diana, aiming to encourage reflection on individual and community roles in preventing conflict amidst modern international unrest and rearmament.
