COMITES 2026 elections: voting procedures for Italians abroad
Elections for the renewal of the COMITES (Committee of Italians Abroad) are scheduled for December 4, 2026. This body serves as the representative organ for Italian communities residing outside of Italy, facilitating relations with Italian authorities and promoting integration.
Unlike general political elections, voting materials for COMITES are not sent automatically. Italian citizens residing abroad must explicitly request to be included in the electoral roll by November 4, 2026, to receive their voting packets. In Switzerland, the Embassy of Italy in Bern has noted that requests can be made online via the Fast It portal, provided the individual is registered with AIRE and has been a resident in the consular district for at least six months.
In San Marino, the new COMITES will consist of 12 members serving five-year terms. Eligible voters include Italian citizens residing in San Marino, including dual citizens, who have been registered with AIRE for at least six months. Requests for voting packets can be submitted via the Fast It portal, email, post, or in person at the Embassy. Candidate lists must be submitted by October 3, 2026.
