Cizre hosts commemoration program for scholar Melayê Cizîrî

A commemorative program honoring the life, scholarly identity, and literary works of the prominent Islamic scholar and Sufi, Melayê Cizîrî, was held in the courtyard of the historic Kırmızı Medrese in Cizre. Organized by Banga Heq Magazine, the event brought together academics from Şırnak and Mardin Artuklu Universities, religious scholars, political representatives, and civil society members.

Participants emphasized the importance of preserving the intellectual and cultural heritage of the region. Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış, Rector of Şırnak University, described Cizre as a foundational city for Kurdish thought and literature. He also highlighted the need to protect the historical legacy of the Botan Emirs, noting that many of their tombs lack clear identification or inscriptions.

Educators and researchers at the panel expressed a desire for these annual events to continue, stating that such programs help younger generations connect with their historical values and draw inspiration from the intellectual contributions of great scholars.
