Commemorations held in Italy for fallen law enforcement officers

Various ceremonies were held in Italy to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. In Taurasi, a commemoration marked the 45th anniversary of the death of Ciriaco Di Roma, a public security officer killed in a terrorist ambush in 1981 alongside Police Captain Francesco Straullu. The event, attended by local authorities, religious leaders, and law enforcement associations, included the presentation of an ‘Albero della Legalità’ (Tree of Legality) by local students and the renewal of scholarships for young residents.

In Sciacca, a ceremony marked the 56th anniversary of the death of Lieutenant Cosimo Aleo. Aleo, a Guardia di Finanza officer, died at age 23 following injuries sustained during an anti-smuggling operation on the Italian-Swiss border. His brother, Antonino Leo, recounted the circumstances of the shooting and the subsequent months of medical treatment that led to his passing. The event was organized by the Anfi association and included participation from local schools and representatives of the Guardia di Finanza.
