Commemorative events held in Montceau-les-Mines and Saint-Denis
In Montceau-les-Mines, a historical reenactment was held to commemorate the anniversary of the city receiving the Resistance medal. The event recreated the September 15, 1946, ceremony where General De Lattre de Tassigny presented the medal to Mayor Pierre-Ferdinand Mazuez. The commemoration included a parade led by FFI traction and featured local officials, including Mayor Isabelle Louis, who highlighted the early acts of resistance by local youth.
In Saint-Denis, Réunion, the association Koulèr Sourds 974 is organizing World Deaf Day celebrations. The event includes the hoisting of the international Deaf flag in front of the City Hall, followed by a march to Barachois and an associative village. The initiative aims to raise public awareness regarding deafness, sign language, and Deaf culture, while addressing the challenges faced by the community.
