Commemorative events held in Stade and Dortmund
In Stade, the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge will host a central memorial service on November 14 at the former Stade garrison cemetery. The event, titled “Den Vermissten zum Gedenken, den Hinterbliebenen zur Erinnerung, uns zur Verantwortung,” involves significant participation from students of the Jobelmannschule. District Administrator Kai Seefried noted the importance of engaging younger generations in peace work and memorial traditions.
In Dortmund, approximately 35 people gathered at Nordmarkt to commemorate the 1932 Blood Sunday. Organized by the DKP and SDAJ, the memorial addressed the historical street battles between fascists and the local population. Speakers, including Vera Moschke, used the occasion to warn against the normalization of far-right ideologies and discussed the socio-economic factors contributing to political shifts.
