Commemorative walks scheduled in Flanders and the Netherlands

Two distinct commemorative events are scheduled for September in the Low Countries.

In the Flemish Periphery near Brussels, the 'De Gordel' event will take place on Sunday, September 6. Thousands are expected to participate in walking and cycling activities. Organizers emphasize the event as a way to preserve the Flemish and green character of the region, expressing concerns regarding the spillover of crime and administrative issues from Brussels into Flemish municipalities. The event also serves as a call to maintain the Dutch-speaking character of the area.

In Driel, Netherlands, the 17th annual 'Polenwandeltocht' will be held on Saturday, September 12. This commemorative walk honors the Polish paratroopers who were dropped in the area during September 1944. Participants can choose from four different distances, ranging from 6 to 25 kilometers, traversing historical landscapes such as the Rhine riverbanks, the Wolfhezer heath, and various former landing sites and monuments.
