Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reports $250M income and oversees Pentagon reviews
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has reported more than $250 million in income for 2025, according to a 74-page annual financial disclosure. Much of this income is linked to his former ownership of Cantor Fitzgerald. Following his entry into the Cabinet in February 2025, Lutnick resigned from leadership roles at Cantor Fitzgerald and hundreds of other entities. Before divesting his stake, he received at least $190 million in a distribution, and the firm is now managed by his sons.
In a separate development regarding oversight, Lutnick has been assigned to review transactions between the Pentagon and companies connected to Cerberus Capital Management. This assignment addresses potential conflicts of interest involving Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg, a co-founder of Cerberus. While Feinberg divested personal holdings, critics, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, have raised concerns regarding assets held in family trusts that benefit his household. The review comes amid scrutiny of Pentagon contracts awarded to Cerberus-linked entities, such as Stratolaunch and programs related to the Golden Dome missile defense initiative.
