Global banking sector reports strong H1 2026 financial performance
Various financial institutions across Africa and the Middle East have reported strong performance for the first half of 2026.
In the United Arab Emirates, Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) reported a net profit before tax of AED 1,885 million, a 1.3% increase over the previous year. The bank has also achieved milestones in digital banking, receiving recognition for digital transformation and becoming the first UAE bank to enable payments from other banks via its mobile app through the Open Finance Initiative.
In Egypt, First Abu Dhabi Bank Misr (FABMISR) recorded a net profit of 7.9 billion Egyptian pounds, approximately $154.7 million. In Ghana, UBA Ghana reported a 13.2% increase in total assets to GH¢13.27 billion, alongside a significant reduction in its non-performing loan ratio.
In Kenya, Family Bank saw net earnings rise 62% to KSh 3.7 billion. Additionally, companies listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange are set to pay out approximately Sh74.95 billion in dividends, driven by record profits in sectors including telecommunications and banking.
In Mozambique, Millennium bim received international awards for its digital banking excellence for both consumer and corporate segments. Meanwhile, UTB Asset Finance in the United Kingdom reported 53% year-on-year growth in lending volumes during the first seven months of 2026.
