Commercial building collapses in Maracay due to unauthorized renovations
A commercial building located on Avenida Bolívar in Maracay, Venezuela, suffered a structural collapse caused by unauthorized remodeling work. According to municipal authorities, the renovations were conducted without the necessary municipal permits and in violation of legal safety regulations.
José Quijada, the municipal engineer for Girardot, stated that the property was already under a precautionary measure following an administrative sanctioning procedure initiated the previous week. Evidence suggests that structural elements were removed to expand the commercial spaces, which directly led to the collapse.
Regional and municipal authorities, including the Aragua government team, responded to the scene. No fatalities were reported as the building had been cordoned off and evacuated prior to the incident. Technical personnel are currently working to demolish weakened elements and inspect adjacent buildings to ensure public safety.
