Commercial International Bank targets 10 million digital banking customers
Commercial International Bank (CIB) has announced plans to launch a new digital bank, with Egypt serving as the initial launchpad. Hisham Ezz Al-Arab, Chairman and Managing Director of CIB, stated that the digital entity aims to reach approximately 10 million customers in Egypt within the next five years. He noted that success in the local market could facilitate expansion into other international markets, leveraging technology to grow without the necessity of a traditional physical presence in every region.
To support technological advancements, CIB has been utilizing international expertise, including specialists from Singapore, to develop artificial intelligence use cases and deploy AI-based agents. Ezz Al-Arab emphasized that the bank's global ambitions are supported by its human capital and leadership.
In a separate achievement, CIB was ranked second globally in the ‘World’s Top Performing Banks 2026’ list published by Forbes. The bank placed second in the mid-size category (banks with assets between $20 billion and $50 billion), trailing only the US-based SoFi. The Forbes ranking, conducted in collaboration with Statista, evaluates 500 institutions across 89 countries based on profitability, earnings growth, capital resilience, and operational efficiency.
