Commodity markets see cattle and hog futures rise

Commodity markets showed mixed results on August 31, 2026. At the Chicago Board of Trade, corn futures for December rose slightly, while soybean and wheat futures experienced declines.

At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, cattle and hog futures saw upward movement. October live cattle and December live cattle closed higher, alongside increases in September and October feeder cattle. The USDA reported light supply with moderate demand, noting that estimated cattle slaughter rose to 104,000 head. While futures rose on oversold signals, cash hog markets struggled for direction, and boxed beef prices closed lower due to light demand.

In Ontario, pork reports indicated that the U.S. CME price for dressed weight was down compared to the previous day.
