Commodore Station to be auctioned after 144 years of family ownership

Commodore Station, a historic cattle station in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, is being put up for auction following 144 years of ownership by the McAuley and Cox families. The property, which has been held by the families since 1882, has a price guide of $6 million.

The station covers 20,844 hectares (51,507 acres) and is located between Hawker and Blinman. In 2012, the owners donated 26 square kilometres of the land to the Flinders Ranges National Park. The sale is being offered as a going concern, including plant, equipment, and station assets, with the option to include the cattle herd at a predetermined value.

Agents noted that following significant rainfall, the property is in excellent condition with abundant feed reserves and reliable water infrastructure. The auction is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, at the Hawker Bowling Club, unless the property is sold prior.
