Common receives inaugural Artist Impact Award from SAG-AFTRA and SoundExchange

SAG-AFTRA and SoundExchange presented musician, actor, and producer Common with the inaugural Artist Impact Award on September 24 at The Luckman Club in West Hollywood. The award is designed to recognize artists whose work transcends traditional creative boundaries, making significant contributions across music, film, television, and media.

During the presentation, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and SoundExchange President and CEO Michael Huppe highlighted Common’s ability to shape culture and expand artistic possibilities. The organizations also used the occasion to emphasize the importance of protecting performers' rights and creativity, particularly as artificial intelligence reshapes the industry.

In his acceptance speech, Common expressed that while his social activism is not driven by a desire for accolades, the recognition motivates him to continue his work. He noted that the award makes him feel as though he ‘has got to do more’ to elevate others.
