Common vegetables identified for cancer prevention benefits

Medical experts, including Zhao Yunbo from Beijing Hospital and nutritionist Chang Shih Heng, highlight the importance of a healthy diet in combating rising cancer rates. They suggest that affordable, common vegetables can serve as dietary shields against malignant cell changes.

Broccoli is noted for its high vitamin C content and the presence of sulforaphane. Research from Johns Hopkins University indicates that sulforaphane can trigger apoptosis in damaged or precancerous cells, helping to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis. To maximize nutrient absorption, experts recommend chopping broccoli and letting it sit in the air for 10 minutes before cooking.

Tomatoes are also identified as a powerful dietary tool due to lycopene, a compound known for its anti-cancer properties.
