Commonwealth Bank of Australia to invest A$140m in branch upgrades

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has announced plans to invest A$140 million (approximately US$97.4 million) in FY2027 to upgrade its national branch network. The investment aims to enhance access to specialist support and improve the responsiveness and personalization of branch services.

CBA currently operates Australia’s largest branch network with over 600 locations, including 281 regional branches, and maintains more than 1,700 ATMs. Recent investments include A$5 million for a flagship branch in Perth and A$6 million for a branch in Geelong. The bank also intends to continue using mobile ATMs in areas impacted by natural disasters.

In the broader market context, CBA shares have recently traded around $151. The bank remains a significant interest for Australian investors, particularly those focused on dividend income and franking credits within the country’s banking oligopoly.
