Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing evaluates additive manufacturing monitoring

The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) in Virginia is exploring how in-situ monitoring can transition from research to industrial production. Research Engineer Kamden Shephard notes an increasing urgency for process intelligence tools that can support qualification in metal additive manufacturing, as traditional standards often do not fit the technology.

To move into production, monitoring tools must offer high usability and accessible data. The AMiRIS system by Additive Assurance is being evaluated for its ability to provide high spatial resolution and an interface that allows operators and engineers to efficiently interpret large volumes of layer images and process data.
