Lovepreet Singh wins silver as India adds to Commonwealth Games medal haul FAST-MOVING
India’s weightlifter Lovepreet Singh captured the silver medal in the men’s +110 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, posting a total of 388 kg (176 kg snatch, 212 kg clean‑and‑jerk). He finished just one kilogram behind New Zealand’s David Liti, who lifted 389 kg to win gold and set a Games record of 223 kg in the clean‑and‑jerk. Singh’s snatch of 176 kg also broke the Commonwealth Games record.
The Indian weightlifting team concluded the competition with eight medals – one gold, six silver and one bronze – bringing the nation’s overall tally to 16 medals (three gold, ten silver, three bronze). In athletics, Seema Kaliramna earned a bronze in the women’s discus throw with a best of 58.65 m, contributing to the same tally. President Droupadi Murmu, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and other officials publicly congratulated the athletes.
These performances highlighted India’s continued strength in weightlifting and added to a successful day for the country at the Games.
