Communication gaps between Chișinău and Comrat risk manipulation in Gagauzia
Vadim Pistrinciuc, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, warns that a lack of communication between Chișinău and Comrat is creating a vacuum that allows for the manipulation of the population in Gagauzia. He emphasizes that political parties, civil society, mass media, and universities must invest more resources into strengthening relationships with the region's residents through concrete actions rather than mere declarations.
Pistrinciuc suggests that political organizations should increase their local presence by opening branches and conducting activities within the region to prevent external actors from filling the communication gap.
Regarding upcoming elections in Gagauzia, the expert noted that Moldova is better prepared to counter attempts to influence the vote due to previous experiences. While electoral corruption has not been entirely eliminated, he observed that such practices are becoming less widespread. He noted that candidates for governor and the People's Assembly are currently monitoring each other to prevent the illegal use of funds, attributing improved resilience to public pressure and the application of sanctions for electoral violations.
