Communication gaps cause engineers to lose B2B contracts
An analysis by sales trainer Philipp Zurr reveals that engineers in B2B sales frequently lose contracts to competitors with inferior technology due to communication gaps. The study suggests that while technical superiority is a key asset, decision-makers such as purchasers and executives often evaluate solutions based on economic value rather than technical minutiae.
Competitors with less technical depth often succeed by utilizing stronger communication skills to build trust, create urgency, and guide the customer through the decision-making process. This finding is supported by research from the ifo Institute, which indicates that communication quality during the decision process is at least as significant as objective product quality for German medium-sized enterprises.
To avoid losing revenue, technical experts are advised to translate their specialized knowledge into business-oriented language that addresses the economic interests of the client.
