Communications Authority of Kenya proposes new GSM alarm regulation

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has launched a 30-day public consultation regarding a proposed regulatory framework for non-spectrum-based alarm response systems. The move addresses the increasing use of GSM-based security services that utilize licensed public mobile networks and SIM-enabled devices to transmit emergency alerts.

These systems allow for remote property monitoring through mobile applications, SMS, and calls, often integrated into professional security services. The CA aims to establish clear rules for the communications component of these services to protect consumers, ensure equipment compliance, and improve the overall reliability of alarm response services.
